This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become proficient in the administration of medications to patients in North Carolina’s Adult Care Homes. The course is 15 hours long and includes both classroom instruction and lab practice for hands-on experience.
Our Medication Aide course is based on training developed by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and the North Carolina Board of Nursing and covers topics including:
Obtaining and recording vital signs accurately
Assisted glucose monitoring
Legal implications of medication administration
Preventing common medication administration errors
Proficiency and safety in medication preparation and administration
Medication terminology and labeling
Three checks and Six Rights of medication administration
Medication management, storage, and disposal
In the classroom setting, students will learn from experienced instructors who will provide personalized attention and support to ensure success. Through hands-on activities and simulations, students will have the opportunity to practice their skills and knowledge before applying them in real-world clinical settings.
During the clinical site experience, students will work on medication carts in the long-term care setting. This experience provides students with real-world, hands-on experience that will prepare them for success in their role as a Medication Aide.
Upon completion of the course, students will be eligible to take the North Carolina Adult Care Medication Examination and be listed on the North Carolina Medication Aide Registry.
